Wangari Maathai, Thread of Renewal

Wangari Maathai believed a tree could change the world. Through the Green Belt Movement, she mobilised women across Kenya to plant millions, not just trees, but acts of hope, acts of justice.

Her work restored soil, restored dignity, restored futures. She showed that caring for the earth is inseparable from caring for people.

At Humanthread, her story is a reminder: every small act can ripple outward. Every seed planted, in the ground, in a mind, in a community… can become a forest.

Thank you, Wangari, for teaching us that renewal begins with our hands in the soil.
